Ever heard of EWG? It’s the Environmental Working Group in America and annually they release a list of fruit and vegetables they call ‘The Clean 15 and the Dirty Dozen’
It highlights fruits and vegetables they find to be contaminated in our food chain. However, do bear in mind that their USA farming practices are different from Europe and they allow substances to be used which are not allowed in Europe….let’s see how BREXIT affects that eh?!
So to answer your question..should I buy all organic veg?….
Well, the list isn’t perfect for our UK produce but some of this is certainly transferable worldwide and at least indicates which could be the most problematic fruits and vegetables.
Those with thin skins are more likely to absorb pesticides (insecticides, herbicides, fungicides ) during planting, growing and packing ( as enhancers….apples aren’t naturally that shiny you know…)
So, here’s their list and I’d recommend buying organic fruit and veg if possible. I realise it can be expensive so just focusing on those in the dirty dozen list will help reduce the toxic load for you and your family. ALWAYS wash your fruit and Veg whether organic or not….organic does NOT mean pesticide free…did that surprise you?…
